Frequently Asked Questions — BPSC 70th CCE

What is the difference between BPSC CCE and UPSC CSE?

BPSC CCE is the Bihar state civil services exam (for state posts like Deputy Collector, DSP), while UPSC CSE is the national exam (for IAS, IPS, IFS). BPSC is less competitive than UPSC but still requires serious preparation. The syllabus overlaps significantly — BPSC preparation is an excellent stepping stone to UPSC preparation. Bihar-specific GK is an additional component unique to BPSC.

How many attempts are allowed in BPSC?

BPSC does not have a fixed number of attempts — eligibility is based on age limit only. General category candidates can attempt until age 37 (maximum). Reserved categories have higher age limits (SC/ST up to 40, OBC up to 40 for certain posts). This means you can attempt multiple BPSC CCEs as long as you remain within the age bracket.

Is NCERT enough for BPSC Prelims?

NCERT is necessary but not sufficient for BPSC. You need to supplement with Bihar-specific books (for Bihar History, Geography, Economy), Laxmikant for Polity, Spectrum for Modern History, and current affairs material. NCERT Class 6–12 forms the base (approximately 40–50% of Prelims questions can be answered from NCERT), but Bihar-specific GK questions require dedicated resources.
