Haryana Civil Services (HCS) Examination 2026 is conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) for direct recruitment to Group A and Group B services in the Government of Haryana. The HCS Executive cadre is the State’s equivalent of the IAS — feeder service for District Magistrate, SDM, and various heads of department. 1. Eligibility

  • Citizenship: Indian.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a UGC-recognised university.
  • Age: 21 to 42 years on 1 August 2026 (general). Relaxations: SC/ST/OBC of Haryana up to 5 years; PwD up to 10 years.
  • Knowledge of Hindi or Sanskrit at matriculation level (Hindi-medium State exam).

Is HCS Mains conducted in Hindi or English?

Bilingual. Candidates may write in English or Hindi (Devanagari). The qualifying English and Hindi papers test functional proficiency in both.

How many vacancies are typical for HCS Executive?

10-15 HCS Executive seats per cycle, plus 100-150 across other Group A and B services.

Are state-specific GK questions heavy in Prelims?

Yes. Approximately 20-30 of 100 questions in Paper I (GS) come from Haryana history, geography, society, schemes and current affairs.

Best optional for HCS?

Public Administration and Sociology have shorter syllabi and high overlap with GS papers. They are statistically the most-chosen options for HCS.

Can I write HCS in addition to UPSC?

Yes. Many serious aspirants take both. The syllabus overlaps about 75%; only Haryana-specific GK and the optional structure differ. Prepare HCS-specific GK in the last 60-90 days.
